Canadian College of Health Leaders 2012 Convocation / Remise des titres de 2012 du Collège canadien des leaders en santé

At its 41st Annual General Meeting in Halifax on June 3, 2012, the Canadian College of Health Leaders proudly recognized its new CHEs and Fellows for 2011-2012. Eighty-five College members received the CHE designation and one member received the Fellowship designation.

Award recipients were honoured on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the College’s Annual General Meeting and the National Awards Gala, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 3M Health Care Quality Team Awards and the Robert Wood Johnson Awards were presented during the National Health Leadership Conference on June 4 & 5, 2012.

2012 CHE Self Directed Learning Paper Award / Prix du mémoire d’apprentissage autonome CHE, 2012

The CHE Self-Directed Learning Paper Award was established by the Board of Directors in 2005 to recognize high-quality papers submitted as a component of the CHE certification program. The papers demonstrate comprehensiveness, critical thinking and strategic problem solving skills. They are widely applicable and often add valuable new information to the literature in the field.

The College would like to congratulate John King, MHA, CHE and past Chair of the College Board, on his retirement from St. Michael’s Hospital as Executive Vice-President and Chief Administrative Officer effective November 2, 2012.

Dr. Bob Howard, President and CEO of St. Michael’s Hospital in a recent internal news release (June 2012) made these following statements about John:

The Canadian College of Health Leaders is pleased to partner with The University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics on its CIHR funded survey of the organizational ethics issues facing Canadian health executives, managers and ethicists. It is hoped that study results will not only provide an evidence base for improving understanding of organizational ethics, but will serve as a foundation to advance standards development in this area, to inform professional training of health leaders, and to stimulate future research and knowledge translational activities in organizational ethics.

The Chapter Advisory Council (CAC) held its annual face-to-face meeting in Halifax, NS on June 1, 2012. The Chapter Chairs discussed the initiatives and successes of the chapters, the progress of the College’s Professional Development Library and how the chapters can leverage social media, partnerships and LEADS. A joint planning session was also organized with the Board of Directors, Chapter Chairs and National Office staff to discuss strategic alignment, the value proposition and upcoming initiatives.

The 2012 National Health Leadership Conference, presented by the College and the Canadian Healthcare Association, featured two days of dynamic programming in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The conference theme was “Leading the Best: New ideas, new thinking”.  Over 700 participants heard keynote speakers Maureen Bisognano, Gregory Marchildon, Jeffrey Simpson, Steven Paikin, and Frank O’Dea. The conference also featured thirty concurrent sessions on a variety of topics.

April 22-27, 2012

A group of 13 health leaders from across Canada ventured to Stockholm and Örebro to explore current developments in health services policy and organization in the Swedish health systems. The tour provided a rich forum for the exchange of information, ideas and experiences between the Canadians and their Swedish counterparts.
