At its 42nd Annual General Meeting in Niagara Falls on June 9, 2013, the Canadian College of Health Leaders proudly recognized its new CHEs and Fellows for 2012-2013. Eighty College members received the Certified Health Executive (CHETM) designation and one member received the Fellowship designation.

Award recipients were honoured on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the College’s Annual General Meeting and the National Awards Gala, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The 3M Health Care Quality Team Awards and the Robert Wood Johnson Awards were presented during the National Health Leadership Conference on June 10 & 11, 2013.

2013 CHE Self Directed Learning Paper Award / Prix du mémoire d’apprentissage autonome CHE, 2013

The CHE Self-Directed Learning Paper Award was established by the Board of Directors in 2005 to recognize high-quality papers submitted as a component of the CHE certification program. The papers demonstrate comprehensiveness, critical thinking and strategic problem solving skills. They are widely applicable and often add valuable new information to the literature in the field.

Renate G. Ilse, CHE
Renate is the program director for perioperative services, endoscopy, medical device reprocessing, and surgical ambulatory care clinics at Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS).  She joined RVHS in 2010 and her career has included varied roles in acute care, rehabilitation, management consulting and working as a contract instructor in leadership and business communication. Renate is a registered nurse, holds a MBA in finance from the Rotman School of Management and is studying for a doctorate in healthcare leadership. Her current research interests include management ethics and leadership communication. Renate is also the author of two
                                        books on interpersonal communication.

The College continues to broaden its award offerings in an effort to further recognize the outstanding work being done by health leaders across the country. It is incumbent on us to recognize excellence in two important areas of healthcare that are too often overlooked.

The first of our two new awards is the Award of Excellence in Mental Heath Quality Improvement, sponsored by Janssen. This is an organizational or individual award of recognition that will be bestowed upon a hospital, health authority, community based mental health program, or a leader in the field.

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (College) is pleased to announce a new partnership with OlaTech Corporation, a leading custom software development company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. OlaTech is the owner/provider of the in1touch Association Management Software platform. Implementation of the platform began earlier this month with meetings between College staff and OlaTech, and will proceed to phase one this fall.

The 2013 National Health Leadership Conference, presented by the College and the Canadian Healthcare Association, featured two days of dynamic programming in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The conference theme was “From rhetoric to action: Achieving person and family-centered health systems.” Over 700 participants heard keynote speakers Margaret Trudeau, Brian Goldman, Durhane Wong-Rieger, Shirlee Sharkey, CHE, Hélène Campbell, Barbara Farlow, Bridget Duffy and Alex Jadad. The conference also featured thirty-five concurrent sessions on a variety of topics.

Hosted by the College’s Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter, this 1 hour session features Lisa Adams, CHE who has worked 22 years for Eastern Health and other legacy boards in progressive management positions and has 3 university academic appointments in Canada. She is a Certified Health Executive of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, has CNA certification in psychiatric, mental health nursing, is doing an EXTRA research Fellowship with the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement and the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
