CCHL announces 2017 National Awards recipients / Le CCLS annonce les lauréats des prix nationaux de 2017

The Canadian College of Health Leaders and the sponsors of the National Awards Program are proud to honour the individuals, teams and organizations that are making a difference across the healthcare system. This year’s recipients are indeed the pride of our profession.

Award recipients were honoured on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Honouring Health Leadership event, in Vancouver, BC. The 3M Health Care Quality Team Awards and the Robert Wood Johnson Awards were presented during the National Health Leadership Conference on June 12 & 13, 2017.

Chapter Advisory Council meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia / Réunion du Conseil consultatif, section régionale à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique

The Chapter Advisory Council (CAC) held its annual face-to-face meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 9, 2017. Chapter chairs and representatives met to discuss future initiatives such as the national membership campaign, metrics to track chapter success and tools to support chapter growth. The group shared best practices, challenges, successes and gathered to discuss ideas for collaboration across the country.

A joint retreat was also organized with the Board of Directors, CAC and the national office staff to collaborate and determine initiatives for the upcoming year to move the strategic plan forward and support the national membership campaign.

This fall, the College is launching the #CCHLDifferenceMaker campaign aimed at recruiting new members, engaging current members, and expanding our brand’s reach. The heart of the campaign revolves around sharing members’ stories in hopes of reaching and inspiring new audiences. Not only is the #CCHLDifferenceMaker campaign an opportunity to engage potential and existing members, but it’s also our opportunity to have a broader conversation about the purpose and importance of the profession of health leadership.

Through member engagement we will share stories about the difference makers in our leadership community and the difference making initiatives that they work on every day.

We want to hear from you! 


Removing barriers to membership: Introducing the College’s graduated entry fee / Supprimer les obstacles à l’adhésion : introduction du nouveau droit d’adhésion progressif du Collège

The College Board of Directors, on the recommendation of the Chapter Advisory Council, is pleased to announce the approval of a 3-year graduated entry fee for all new Active Members beginning October 1, 2017.

The new graduated entry fee will be launched in coordination with our #CCHLDifferneceMaker campaign, and will help remove membership cost as a potential barrier to membership, especially for students completing their programs and leaders early in their career.

The decision recognizes the importance of growing the College’s Active membership base to offset declines in Active Membership levels associated with retirements of long-standing Active Members. Offering a graduated entry fee is new for the College but reflects a practice used by other associations, such as the American College of Healthcare Executives, to promote membership growth.

We know that mentorship, professional development and knowledge exchange are a few of the most valued benefits of College membership. However, articulating the intangible benefits of College membership has been a struggle. Until now.

The July edition of Healthcare Management Forum is all about access. It addresses when care is rationed to the point where access to medically necessary care, service and products is denied, and how to turn the tide. The Guest Editor is D. Wayne Taylor, founding Executive Director of The Cameron Institute, a not-for-profit think tank specializing in economic, health and social policy issues.

Bilingual content includes the ethics column by Elizabeth Fistein (Cambridge) and David Malloy (University of Regina) about the risks and benefits of using goals and metrics to improve healthcare. They introduce tools to help health leaders develop processes and cultures that help, not harm, patients.
