Raising the Bar at the National Health Leadership Conference

By Ray Racette, President and CEO, Canadian College of Health Leaders, and Bill Tholl, President and CEO, and Jennifer Kitts, Director, Policy and Strategy, HealthCareCAN

Each June, over 700 health system leaders from across Canada convene at the National Health Leadership Conference (NHLC). NHLC provides a pivotal forum for questions, debate and the sharing of strategies and solutions to the most pressing health system challenges in Canada.

Co-hosted by the Canadian College of Health Leaders and HealthCareCAN, NHLC 2014 was a huge success. Held in beautiful Banff, Alberta, the 2014 theme was, “Raising the bar: A critical time for bold leadership.” The conference featured four outstanding plenaries, each highlighting the critical role of bold and courageous leadership, as well as the importance of patient and family centred care, in driving health system excellence. What follows is a brief recap of key takeaways from Banff and an early preview of what we have in store for NHLC 2015 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
