The Canadian College of Health Leaders would like to congratulate all of its members who were accepted into the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) 2014 Executive Training for Research Application (EXTRA) Program competition.

As a partner with CFHI's EXTRA Program, the College has established a strategic alliance whereby the EXTRA Fellows who are members of the College are formally recognized when they enroll in the CHE or Fellowship programs. SAGE to publish Healthcare Management Forum starting in 2015 / SAGE publiera le Forum Gestion des soins de santé à compter de 2015

The Canadian College of Health Leaders is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with SAGE to publish the College’s peer-reviewed journal, Healthcare Management Forum starting with the first edition in January 2015. SAGE publishes over 700 journals with more than 290 societies and associations worldwide, and understands the culture of membership-based organizations. This partnership will allow the College to maintain full editorial independence, while receiving top-notch production and editorial support.

Congratulations to Dr. Atefeh Samadi-niya on her design and completion of the Canadian National Study of Interprofessional Relationships between Physicians and Hospital Administrators (CANSIRPH). The study concludes that physician-hospital relationships are a crucial part of healthcare leadership and when engagement is effective, can improve the quality of patient care, and reduce healthcare costs.

The College would like to congratulate Vickie Kaminski on her recent appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services.

According to the Alberta Health Services news release (March 2014):

Alberta Health Services today announced the appointment of a new President and Chief Executive Officer, Vickie Kaminski.

“This appointment is the result of an extensive search that resulted in a number of excellent candidates,” said Dr. John Cowell, AHS’ Official Administrator. “Ms. Kaminski demonstrates a vision for health care that is aligned with our commitment to providing Albertans with high quality care. We are pleased to find an excellent Canadian leader. We are looking forward to her arrival and for her, in collaboration with the others on the leadership team, to continue to build a health system that is second to none.”

In 2011, the Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH) began its journey towards developing a culture of continuous improvement. TEGH evolved to an organization-wide improvement system through a commitment to fiscal responsibility, practical innovation, team-based performance management, and daily management systems.

This culture enabled the TEGH to achieve the lowest Emergency Department wait times for admitted patients in its local health integration network and reduce length of stay for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by 46%.

Biggest and Most Diverse Cohort in Decade-long Program

Ottawa, Canada – May 23, 2014 – Eleven inter-professional teams of senior healthcare leaders from across Canada have been selected for the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement’s flagship 2014-15 EXTRA program for healthcare improvement.

During the 14-month program, participants will acquire skills and knowledge to initiate, implement and sustain major quality improvement initiatives of strategic importance in their organizations and regions, with the goal of enhancing patient outcomes, quality of care and cost-effectiveness.
