A new group of healthcare improvement projects is aiming to create innovative ways to improve care delivery closer to home for Canadians.

The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today announced that it will support nine projects over the next year through its flagship EXTRA: Executive Training Program, a team-based 14-month bilingual improvement fellowship.

The nine projects represent teams from healthcare organizations in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.

Biggest and Most Diverse Cohort in Decade-long Program

Ottawa, Canada – May 23, 2014 – Eleven inter-professional teams of senior healthcare leaders from across Canada have been selected for the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement’s flagship 2014-15 EXTRA program for healthcare improvement.

During the 14-month program, participants will acquire skills and knowledge to initiate, implement and sustain major quality improvement initiatives of strategic importance in their organizations and regions, with the goal of enhancing patient outcomes, quality of care and cost-effectiveness.

CFHI 2014 call for EXTRA program team applications

Collaborative learning for healthcare improvement
Now celebrating its tenth year, CFHI’s EXTRA program for healthcare improvement supports teams of up to four health leaders in the design, implementation and evaluation of an improvement project in their own organization(s), or with multi-site teams.  During their 14-month learning process, each team works collaboratively within their organization or ministry (or across jurisdictions) to achieve efficient, high quality services that improve healthcare of their population.

EXTRA, who should apply? / À qui s’adresse le programme FORCES ?

The new EXTRA fellowships are available to teams composed of two to four individuals who have completed professional training in any health discipline, including medical practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, health managers and policy-makers. It is expected that recipients of EXTRA team fellowships will have completed their initial professional training in the last five to 15 years, have an ongoing commitment to the application of evidence in healthcare, and occupy leadership roles in their organizations. The team applicant(s) must provide strong evidence of support from their organization(s) throughout the tenure of the fellowship.
