Canadian Certified Healthcare Facility Manager

You have probably seen it all, major floods, blackouts, and loss of water, this list goes on. In order to deal with these disasters along with the everyday task of keeping a healthcare facility running, Healthcare Administrators must rely on the facilities management leadership to perform at a high level and be knowledgeable and competent in their field. One way to accomplish this is to develop an effective certification process that promotes a broad knowledge base and an on-going commitment to continuous learning.

In recognition of this idea, in September 2015, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) launched the Canadian Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CCHFM) Program for its members across Canada. The program is based on the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (a membership group of the American Hospital Association) Certified Healthcare Facility Manager program, a highly successful certification process for healthcare facility managers.

Many Teams Focus on Providing Patient Care Closer to Home

Ottawa, Canada – April 26, 2017 – The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today announced nine new healthcare improvement projects across the country it will support over the next year through its flagship fellowship program, with a focus on innovative ways of shifting care to patients’ homes or communities.

The projects from healthcare organizations in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia have been selected for the EXTRA: Executive Training Program, a team-based 14-month bilingual improvement fellowship – the only one of its kind in Canada. Each team of healthcare providers and managers designs, implements and evaluates a major quality improvement project that is of strategic value to its organization and region.

A new group of healthcare improvement projects is aiming to create innovative ways to improve care delivery closer to home for Canadians.

The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today announced that it will support nine projects over the next year through its flagship EXTRA: Executive Training Program, a team-based 14-month bilingual improvement fellowship.

The nine projects represent teams from healthcare organizations in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.

CFN funds four landmark research projects

Investing in transforming care for older Canadians living with frailty

Canadian Frailty Network recently received funding from the Government of Canada’s Networks of Centres of Excellence program for a second five-year term (2017-2022), and is continuing  with the work it began in since its inception in 2012. In its first term, CFN supported 88 research projects at 45 Canadian post-secondary institutions and teaching hospitals, and the CFN community has grown to over 3,500, including 400 researchers across Canada.

Ottawa, ON – March 7, 2017 – A report released today by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) will better equip policymakers, healthcare administrators and elected officials to make informed decisions about where to best invest targeted mental health dollars.

The report, Strengthening the Case for Investing in Canada’s Mental Health System:  Economic Considerations, is timely given that mental health is a priority in the impending Health Accord, and governments have the opportunity to allocate new funds to mental health. Strengthening the Case outlines evidence-based investments in mental health that can have the greatest impact, while providing governments with the strongest likelihood of recouping their spending down the road.

We are seeking abstract submissions for workshop presentations or “speed session” talks for our 2017 annual conference, which takes place October 18 & 19 in Markham. Service providers, researchers, innovators, and other leaders from both inside and outside the health system are encouraged to share their knowledge and connect with our delegates.

Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care invites members of the Canadian College of Health Leaders to new Climate Change Resiliency Mentoring Program

Based upon the increasing climate change impacts many facilities are already experiencing, the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, and collaborator University Health Network (UHN), are offering Canada’s first climate change resiliency mentoring program to College members in hospitals across Canada using the Coalition’s Climate Change Resiliency Toolkit.

The Coalition is eminently qualified to lead such an initiative having just won Gold status for Climate Change Leadership in the 2020 Challenge Climate Champion Awards as part of Health Care Without Harm's Global Green and Healthy Hospitals initiative. Partner UHN is similarly internationally recognized as multiple award winners for Climate Resiliency (Gold 2015, Gold 2016) and Climate Leadership (Silver 2015, Gold 2016) and Energy Efficiency (Silver 2015).

Open Call Will Strengthen Palliative Care for Canadians

Ottawa, Canada – February 8, 2017 – The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today launched an open call for innovations in palliative and end-of life care. Of the approximately 220,000 Canadians who die each year, an estimated 70 percent do not have access to palliative services – and for many a palliative approach or referral is initiated only within the last weeks of life. By identifying palliative care innovations, we can improve access and spread a palliative approach across health systems.

Since November 1st, VIA Rail upgraded its schedule between Ottawa and Toronto. Travellers now have a choice of two new afternoon departures (one departure each way), bringing the service offering up to nine daily departures in each direction during the week.
