Ron Noble, FCCHL, recipient of the College's 2015 Mentorship Award, is a healthcare leader known for his commitment to mentoring. Ron has guided young and senior level professionals in the art of leadership management, stakeholder engagement and finance, in a healthcare setting.

Ron took the time to share with us his personal take on mentorship, the benefits, the challenges and how it plays into being an effective leader.

We all know anecdotally that being a mentor has its rewards. Mentors often report satisfaction from helping their mentees connect the dots between their abilities and their potential. Mentors relish the opportunity to pay it forward and report feeling fulfilled by the experience. But are their more tangible benefits, beyond the emotional gains? According to one study, the answer is a resounding yes.

A comprehensive case study by Gartner, a Connecticut-based market research firm, of over 1,000 workers from Sun Microsystems over a five-year period revealed the following benefits of a formal mentoring program.

Award recipients were honoured on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the College’s Annual General Meeting and the National Awards Gala, in Banff, Alberta. The 3M Health Care Quality Team Awards and the Robert Wood Johnson Awards were presented during the National Health Leadership Conference on June 2 & 3, 2014.

The new CHE Program officially launches in November 2013 / Le nouveau Programme CHE sera lancé officiellement en novembre 2013

Over 24 months ago we began the journey of transforming the CHE ^TM Program. On behalf of the CHE Program Committee, I am pleased to report that we have made it. The new CHE Program officially launches in November 2013!

Every aspect of the CHE Program has been reviewed, revised and updated. Consultation, academic advice, discussions, piloting and testing exam questions were all part of the journey. Aligning the CHE core competencies with the LEADS framework was our first step. Once that was completed, we were able to look at each part of the program and ask: “what leadership capabilities and domain of the LEADS framework should candidates demonstrate in each aspect of the CHE Program?” Having a program that covered all five (5) domains, demonstrated the necessary skills, knowledge and judgement required of leaders in the Canadian health system and was suitable for all members of the College regardless of career stage was essential. Ensuring a good connection and transition from the CHE designation to the Fellow designation was also a key driver for the CHE Program Committee, our sub-committees and working groups (Exam and SDL, Markers and Evaluators, CHE Program Working Group).
