Since its inception in 1945, the Medal of Honour has been awarded to truly outstanding individuals whose research and/or contribution to public policies supportive of research and development in Canada have achieved international recognition.
Nominees must be Canadian residents whose work/research has been performed in Canada and has made a truly notable or pivotal contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the health sciences, health policy and/or the improvement of therapeutics and healthcare. Recipients can originate from a variety of fields and sectors including patient groups, educators, journalists, industry, and the public and non-profit sectors.
The $20,000 prize will be invested back into innovative health research at the Canadian academic institution of the recipient's choice to promote further life sciences research in Canada.

Depuis sa création en 1945, la Médaille d’honneur a été remise à des personnes remarquables dont la recherche ou la contribution aux politiques publiques appuyant la recherche et le développement au Canada a été reconnue à l’échelle mondiale.
Les candidats doivent être des résidents canadiens dont les travaux ou les recherches ont été effectués au Canada et ont apporté une contribution vraiment exceptionnelle ou essentielle à l’avancement des connaissances dans les domaines des sciences de la santé, des politiques de santé et des améliorations dans la thérapeutique et la santé. Les lauréats peuvent provenir d’une variété de domaines et de secteurs, notamment des groupes de patients, des enseignants, de l’industrie, du secteur public et d’organismes sans but lucratif.
Le prix de 20 000 $ sera réinvesti dans la recherche innovatrice en santé à l’établissement universitaire du choix du récipiendaire afin de promouvoir plus de recherches dans les sciences de la vie.
