National Awards Program: Make headlines for all the right reasons / Programme national des prix : Faites les manchettes pour toutes les bonnes raison

Over the next few issues of Communiqué we will be profiling the various awards and calling for your nominations. 

In June 2015, the College, with the support of our award sponsors, will bestow 15 prestigious national healthcare awards in Charlottetown, PEI. These awards are presented to individuals, teams and organizations in the healthcare community that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, and who have made significant contributions in areas such as: mentorship; innovation; nursing; healthcare safety; quality; environmental stewardship; diversity; and mental health and addictions.

These awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge those who play a major role in the advancement and betterment of our health systems. 

Award recipients will receive paid travel and accommodations and a complimentary registration to attend the National Health Leadership Conference. Award presentations will be held during the College’s National Awards Gala, Annual General Meeting and at the National Health Leadership Conference. All events are being held in Charlottetown, PEI from June 14-16, 2015.

First strategic alliance developed with a healthcare employer in British Columbia / Première alliance stratégique établie avec un employeur du secteur de la santé de la Colombie-Britannique

The Canadian College of Health Leaders and the Mennonite Benevolent Society (Menno Place) have signed the first agreement in British Columbia healthcare that commits to setting the Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation as a standard for leaders to develop skills and competencies, and to increase the capabilities of health leaders in Canada. Menno Place will foster leadership development for health leaders including the support and pursuit of the CHE designation as well as ongoing training using the LEADS in a Caring Environment capabilities framework.

Remembering Ron Wood / En souvenir de Ron Wood

It is with deep regret that we announce that our colleague Ron Wood, from Vancouver and born and raised in Winnipeg, passed away on October 16, 2014. At the time of his passing Ron was the President and Chief Executive Officer of ProMed Associates.

According to the ProMed Associates web site (October 2014):

Ron was involved in medical imaging (MI) for 40 years, with a career that began at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg which then evolved into a Canada-wide involvement in MI for both adult and pediatric acute care services and included all Diagnostic Imaging modalities in both the public and private sectors. Ron also worked with Nuclear Medicine, Cardiology, Urology, Neurology and the ER to help address their needs.

The College would like to congratulate the award recipients of the Canada Health Infoway, Public Health Social Media Challenge.

According to the Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) news release (November 2014):

The Public Health Social Media Challenge, the latest initiative in the Infoway ImagineNation Challenge series, was designed to support public health organizations in a quest to harness the power of social media to address public health issues and concerns. Teams with the most infectious social media campaigns were eligible to share awards and incentives.

Working together to improve care for Canadians through Digital Health

November 10, 2014 (Toronto) - Leading Canadian healthcare organizations are pleased to announce the launch of the first-ever Digital Health Week in Canada, taking place from November 10 to 14, 2014.

This unique collaboration of 18 organizations recognizes how digital health is transforming care and inspires further progress in improving delivery of care across the country.
