The Canadian College of Health Leaders and Emerging Health Leaders are pleased to announce that Aramark Healthcare is sponsoring a deserving emerging health leader to participate at the upcoming Italy Study Tour.

This is an outstanding professional development opportunity. The tour will provide a forum for the exchange of information, ideas and experiences that will foster relationships between Canadians and their Italian counterparts.

Feedback on previous study tours indicates that participants have gained important and timely lessons from examining the Italian healthcare system and the many innovations that they've adopted. Most importantly they have been able to apply what they have learned to their own work at home, and have made valuable contacts in Italy and with their fellow tour panelists.

The College would like to congratulate Dr. Robert Bell on his recent appointment as Deputy Minister of Health, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

According to the Canadian Healthcare Technology news release (April 2014):

Dr. Robert Bell, president of Toronto’s University Health Network has been appointed Ontario’s new deputy minister of health, putting him in charge of a $49-billion department that has been struggling to control costs. He will make the transition in June.

The College would like to congratulate Paul Bradley, Vice-President of Strategic Affairs at Johnson & Johnson Medical Companies on his recent appointment as Chair of the MEDEC Board of Directors.

According to the CNW news release (April 2014):

MEDEC, the national association representing Canada's medical technology companies, today welcomed Paul Bradley as Chair of the MEDEC Board of Directors.

Mr. Bradley's commitment to increasing medical device access and innovation also extends to his community involvement. He serves on the Board of ventureLAB, a regional innovation centre dedicated to helping talented entrepreneurs bring their technology to the market, is an advisory Board Member with the MBiotech Program at the University of Toronto and is a past member of the corporate advisory board of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.

The College would like to congratulate Cathy Szabo, CHE on her recent appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of Providence Care.

According to the Canadian Healthcare Technology news release (April 2014):

Cathy Szabo, the new president and CEO of Providence Care, says the construction of the organization’s new hospital will also mark the start of a more comprehensive way of delivering healthcare in Kingston.
Szabo said the delivery of healthcare is evolving and Providence Care has to keep up with the changes. “How I delivered care when I started at the bedside when I was a nurse at St. Mike’s a few years ago is different from how nursing is now,” she said.

CFHI and Boehringer Ingelheim Partner to Spread INSPIRED Approach to COPD

Ottawa, Canada – April 15, 2014 – The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today launched a pan-Canadian collaborative focused on improving care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), supported by Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd. (BICL). The collaborative will assist healthcare organizations to adapt and implement an innovative approach to COPD developed at Capital Health, Nova Scotia, that helped improve patient care, support families and caregivers, significantly reduce the use of acute care services and lower costs.

Funding supports healthcare organizations in their efforts to improve patient care

Ottawa, Canada – April 2, 2014 – The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement today announced an initiative to help Canadian healthcare organizations make care more patient- and family-centred, coordinated, safe and efficient. Partnering with Patients and Families for Quality Improvement is a 17-month collaborative open to healthcare organizations committed to engaging patients and families in designing, delivering and evaluating healthcare services with the goal of better patient care and outcomes.
