Spotlight on: The National Awards Program / En vedette : Programme national des prix

The 2013 National Awards Program boasts 14 awards honouring leaders in healthcare, including senior executives, emerging leaders, administrative and operational teams, nurses, students and more.

Over the next few issues of Communiqué we will be profiling the various awards and calling for your nominations. Although the nomination deadline has passed for some of our awards, we are still accepting nominations for many of our team awards up until February 1, 2013. For more information on our team awards, please see below.  Award recipients will receive paid travel and accommodations and a complimentary registration to attend the National Health Leadership Conference. Award presentations will be held at the College’s National Awards Gala, Annual General Meeting and at the National Health Leadership Conference. All events are being held in Niagara Fall, Ontario June 9 – 11, 2013.

The Canadian College of Health Leaders launches its Professional Development Library / Le Collège canadien des leaders en santé lance sa Bibliothèque de perfectionnement professionnel

The College's Professional Development Library (library) offers health leaders comprehensive e-learning resources designed to refine their leadership skills.

A joint effort between the College and its chapters, the library provides members and non-members with access to e-learning resources delivered in the form of live and archived webinars, documents and presentations in their original language.

Social Media: Implications, issues and opportunities for health care leaders

Canadian health care leaders are expected to lead and collaborate with others to advance the transformation of the Canadian health care system. The LEADS in a Caring Environment framework identifies communication as important for advancing change. New forms of social media have emerged such as blogs, RSS, mashups, wikis, social networks, podcasts, microblogs, and folksonomies. This study explores how health care leaders and organizations can advance health system transformation exploiting social media.

The 14-month Executive Training for Research Application (EXTRA) fellowships support teams of healthcare executives in initiating and leading evidence-informed improvements in their own organizations, or across jurisdictions involving multi-site teams and cross-boundary quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Evaluations from the College's Winnipeg Workshop ranked it as an excellent continuing education   work­ shop. One participant said: "No question in my mind - it's hard to conceive a program that is better given or better delivered than this one."

Forty-eight health executives from Manitoba and Saskatchewan attended the workshop on September 30 and October 1 at the Northstar Inn in Winnipeg.
